Train your parrot to eat pellets “Eat healthy, live healthy” goes an old saying and it is so true in case of your parrot. Truly, good food is the answer to your bird’s health problems and as such we have come up with our parrot training newsletter which talks in detail about the way in which you should train your parrot to take pellets in place of nuts as they are more nutritious and filling. Here we will give you a mere jist of this huge piece of information and show you why our newsletter is the answer to your problems. You may ask why your parrot requires pellets and why is real food not good enough for them. See, pellets supply your bird with a variety of vitamins and essential minerals that are not found in most nuts and seeds. They are also fully edible and donot have hulls in them (like nuts) which thus decrease the food quantity considerably. These pellets are formulated only for your pet bird, so that they have a easy time eating. Pellets are the fruits of years of research in pet nutrition and so they are safe and highly recommended for your bird. But how will you get your parrot to switch to pellets after it has been habituated on nuts and fruits? The process is very simple. You will need two bowls, one for the pellets and one for the seeds and will need to place the pellet bowl at the highest perch and the seed bowl on the floor of the cage. Everytime that you give your parrot food make sure that seeds are few while pellets are more. Along with reducing the amount of seeds skip this meal from their evening food routine. If you find that your bird is refusing any other food except from the seeds then you are going to have a tough time training it on pellets. However the problem is solved in our parrot training newsletter and you can always get it, to find out. So, if your bird seems to eat pellets after its seed meal is finished and the other meal is hours away then you have to reduce the quantity of seeds still and try on for a week or so. Within this time your pet will take on to the pellets and you can altogether stop giving it seeds. However there are a few things that you have to keep in mind. Donot revert back to giving your bird seeds unless you are confirmed that pellet eating habit is irreversible. You would not want your bird to go back on a seed diet just because you gave him some seeds within his conversion period to pellets. So give seeds only when they are fully converted. Further weigh your bird to see if the weight is maintained or not because if their weight decreases then that means they are not eating as required and you may have to give them seeds or their normal diets back. In these cases reverting to pellets will take some time but it is achievable. During this conversion period it is important that you watch your bird’s poop constantly and carefully. The poop will be different during the period of conversion but if it persists then visit your avian doctor to sort out problems. The droppings can be watery and will have a different colour but donot be alarmed, it is natural.
